Bunnahabhain Distillery

Caol Ila Distillery
Caol Ila (pronounced Cull Eela) is on the North East Coast , along with Ardnahoe and Bunnahabhain.
n 1846, Glasgow distillery owner Hector Henderson picked a little bay on the Sound of Islay for his distillery site. He named it for the sound itself, using the Gaelic Caol Ila, and it was across this sound the little puffer ships made their round trips to the mainland – slowly helping to establish the distillery as the biggest on Islay.
Caol lla is currently closed due to construction- we look forward to welcoming you back to our renovated brand, in the meantime our sister distillery Lagavulin has reopened where you can sample Caol Ila. The Lagavulin team are all very excited to welcome our guests back and have been working hard to ensure the safety of our visitors, employees and local community, following government guidelines.
Booking is by appointment only so please reach out to the team by emailing lagavulin@malts.com. Advanced booking is essential.
